A young Ukrainian jazz band ShekBand performed at the Castleknock Music Festival, which will take place in Dublin from 3 to 10 July.
ShekBand is a family trio from Kyiv, which started their music career in 2015. At that time, the youngest member of the band was only five years old. Today the eldest brother Artem is 16, Anna is 14 and Maksym is 11 years old. They study jazz improvisation at State Music School #4 in Kyiv and dream about their future jazz education.
ShekBand has already conquered the stages of jazz festivals in Ukraine, Poland, Bulgaria, Germany, Romania and Slovenia. They have repeatedly won music awards and recently released their first Jazz album “Inflatable Ram”.
In Dublin, the trio performed on July 3 in the St. Brigid’s Community Center. The musicians performed original compositions from the new album and several classic jazz songs. The evening ended with the performance of “Oy u luzi chervona kalyna”, dedicating the performance to the Ukrainian defenders-heroes.
