Ukrainian Development Center and Saturday School opened in Cavan
Events
As part of the work of the Palyanytsya Charity Hub, the Ukrainian Development Center was opened, which will work to unite and develop the Ukrainian community in Cavan.
The Ukrainian community in Cavan does a lot of work to ensure that Ukrainians who were forced to leave Ukraine because of the war and their children feel comfortable and cozy in Ireland.
In order to support Ukrainian parents and their children, it was decided, within the framework of the Palyanytsya Charity Hub, to create a Ukrainian Development Center and establish a Ukrainian Saturday School on its basis. All of our citizens who are now integrating into Irish hospitality should be able to learn, create and communicate in their native language. In the center, experienced teachers will conduct art classes, various games and master classes, dance and musical art, entertainment, artistic reading and study of scripts for the holidays. We want our children to be proud that they are Ukrainians, to know the language of their people, and therefore all classes will be held in Ukrainian. As part of the Saturday school, classes will be held in the Ukrainian language, English, intellectual development, art, psychology and others.
The grand opening event took place on November 12, 2022 in Cavan at Terry Coyle Park. The event was organized by the Ukrainian community with the support of the Community Foundation for Ireland and the Healthy Ireland Fund, Cavan County Council.
Thanks to Brendan Smith, TD and Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council John Paul Feeley, and Hazel Leahy of Cavan County Local Development, who joined in opening the center.
We also sincerely thank everyone who did their best to make this event happen! To our Ukrainian society, teachers, musicians, parents and children – to everyone who created this holiday and filled it with joyful emotions.
As Sergiy Balan, representative of The Association of Ukrainians in Republic Ireland (AURI), noted at the opening, all the activities of the center will be aimed at supporting Ukrainians in Ireland, so that even far from our native Ukraine we remain Ukrainians, carry our own culture and traditions, take care of our native language. He also thanked Ireland for welcoming the Ukrainians so warmly, for helping and supporting them in every possible way during this difficult time, and for becoming a second home for everyone who found refuge here, fleeing the war.
“We all need to rally and unite into one friendly community in order to feel like part of a great unconquered nation far from the Motherland, which, for the sake of Victory, is capable of incredible feats and achievements. Together – we are force! Together we want to show Ukrainian talents to the world. We will also introduce the Irish to their traditions, language and culture,” – Sergiy Balan added. The Ukrainian Development Center will work with the support of the AURI and Cavan County Local Development.
Thanks also to Cavan Gaels and Niall O’Riordan for providing a state of the art facility for the school in Terry Coyle Park.
Many interesting and educational initiatives are expected within the framework of the project. Everyone will be able to express themselves in different directions. Therefore, join the Facebook page of the Ukrainian Development Center in Cavan and stay tuned for updates, and visit our events!
The Ukrainian Development Center will develop various areas of work not only for children, but also for adults, and if the premises are available, it will actively work not only on weekends, but also on weekday evenings.
