Sergiy Balan, the chair of Ukrainian Community Cavan and Association of Ukrainians charity, one of the heads of the Association of Ukrainians in the Republic of Ireland (AURI), manager of a mushroom farm in Cavan, as well as an extremely talented Ukrainian took part in the My Journey Home show for Shannonside FM Northern Sound FM, during which he expressed gratitude to the Irish in the language of music.
“My Journey Home” is a celebration of cultural diversity in Ireland featuring stories of a wide range of people from different nationalities and backgrounds who have come to the border counties, midlands and west of the Republic of Ireland to make it their home.
Mr. Sergiy on bayan and Natalya Feshchenko on a traditional Ukrainian instrument called bandura performed musical compositions on Shannonside FM Northern Sound FM.
Sergiy Balan also shared his story, which My Journey Home felt like this:
“Sergiy Balan arrived in Ireland in 2001 to learn English. He started as a mushroom picker at a factory he now manages.
Sergiy gradually integrated with the Irish locals and became an advocate of empowering the Ukrainian community and promoting the Ukrainian culture. Since the war started his passion to help Ukrainians back home and Ukrainian refugees has become stronger. He tirelessly initiates and takes part in cultural, fundraising, educational projects throughout Ireland. ”
