The Cork City Marathon, the Together Razem Сenter team, with the organizers of the Senctuary Runners, attracted more than 90 Ukrainians, who came to the marathon not only from Cork, but also from other cities of Ireland. The Ukrainian team Together4Ukraine wore a symbolic armband with the flag of Ukraine. 💙💛 Most Ukrainians ran a distance of 7.4 km. But there were also those who ran 21 km (8 people), and even the one who ran a full marathon – 42 km (1 person).
The event was attended by more than 450 people – Ukrainians, Poles, and Irish – from different cities of the country, and it was really a huge event, for which everyone has been preparing for months, and some for years. Fans came to support runners by applause. In the center of the city, a large number of people gathered at the finish line to sing the national anthem of Ukraine, despite the rain and cloudy weather.
Participants were delighted the run. After the finish, everyone received their medals, and separately the consul of the city of Cork awarded a medal to one of the representatives of the Ukrainian team, a volunteer – Kateryna Honcharuk for organizing the Ukrainian team. After the mileage, participants and fans had a snack and enjoy the music. Sanctuary Runners have promised to come to Ukraine with a marathon after the war. After all, the purpose of this marathon is to unite people, show solidarity with different communities, call for openness and partnership, and also symbolize the friendship and multinationality of the peoples of Ireland.
AURI is sincerely grateful to the city of Cork and the volunteers for organizing the event. Glory to Ukraine!
