Irish and Ukrainian Organisations in Ireland Issue Joint Call for Solidarity
The Association of Ukrainians in the Republic of Ireland (AURI), together with a coalition of Ukrainian, Irish, and international organisations, has issued a Joint Statement urging Ireland to maintain and strengthen its support for Ukraine as the war continues to impact millions. The statement, published today, highlights the critical role Ireland has played in providing refuge, advocating for justice, and standing as a voice for democracy in Europe.
“Ireland knows what it means to fight for freedom”
The statement draws on Ireland’s own history of struggle and resilience, making a direct appeal to the Irish government, political leaders, and civil society to continue their unwavering commitment to Ukraine.
"Ireland knows what it means to fight for freedom. It knows what it means to stand against the odds, to endure hardship, and to refuse to surrender its identity. Today, Ukraine fights that same battle - not just for itself, but for the principles that unite free nations."
Over 100,000 Ukrainian refugees have found shelter in Ireland, a testament to the Irish people’s compassion and solidarity. However, the statement warns that solidarity must not fade as the war persists. With thousands still fleeing Russian attacks, survivors in liberated areas needing urgent aid, and entire cities awaiting rebuilding, continued international support is more crucial than ever.
Ireland’s Role in a Changing Europe
The signatories recognise that supporting Ukraine comes with challenges, but history has shown that standing with those who fight for freedom strengthens not only the country in need but also the values and security of those who support it. The statement urges Ireland to remain a strong advocate for Ukraine on the international stage, reinforcing its position as a nation that stands up for democracy, justice, and human dignity.
“Solidarity in action is not just a choice – it’s Ireland’s legacy.”
The statement concludes with a clear call to action, urging Ireland to stand firm, stay engaged, and uphold the values that have defined its response since the war began.
